19th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Viewing one of the several observatories on the summit of Maunakea at sunset.
Visiting Maunakea at sunset, I thought this image summed up the experience nicely: the sun giving off its golden light, being above the clouds, the scientific work that goes on here,the reflection of light off of the observatory, and the tourists taking it all in and giving a sense of scale.
