In Gou voodoo, sacrifices are held in at least two places - inside, at the shrine where the blood of the offering can be splashed across the many idols and outside, usually at the entrance to the shrine (or shrine complex) where usually a small mount of skulls from previous offerings are collected and piled high. The sacrificial animal - usually a cockerel - is presented to the deity and only after the priest has received notice of the acceptance does the sacrifice proceed.
