I thought at first that the "eyes" on this Maple tree were painted in, but it was beautifully designed by nature and etched in the grain of the wood. The tree stood in the background of Maple Grove Cemetery in Ellsworth Wisconsin, and showing Autumn colors on the day I photographed it 10/29/2025. The eyes reminded me of a soulful spirit living in the tree guarding the cemetery with watchful eyes.
