Water turtles resting on log in C&O Canal
The Chesapeake and Ohio National Historic Park lies along over 180 miles of the Maryland side of the Potomac River. Mostly built in the 1800's, the canal is no longer used, but a few sections still hold water. Wildlife, such as these water turtles, make their home in the canal. On this sunny May day, many turtles crowded onto this log to warm themselves.
