“Watering Hole of the Giants”

While in Tanzania on safari we sought out a watering hole and just sat there for a couple of hours. Then in the distance we heard an oncoming herd of elephants headed our way. As they arrived in single file they each spread out around the watering hole in a way that reflected the herds’ hierarchy with the matriarch taking up position over a pipe that fed the watering hole from a well. She blocked all access to the clean stream of water until she was done. Then there was some jockeying for who got the spot next.
