Western Fantasy
Before I even took this picture, I knew what I would title it: “Western Fantasy.” Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado is really the epitome of what I think of when I think about the Western United States. I realized when I set up to take this shot that all the classic elements were available to capture. In the foreground, the grassy plains spread out. Beyond them, the dunes rise abruptly — sand waves glowing under the sky. Although they are uncommon in this part of the west, the define the country’s South West. In the distance are the snow-capped peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains topped by a sky so unbelievably large and filled with the same foreboding storm clouds which haunt our prairies.
