Wetlands and Biodiversity Loss
A wetland fisherman steers his canoe through a wetland under anthropogenic and climate-related pressures. The Densu Delta in Accra, a Ramsar designated wetland, was once home to large red mangrove forests (Rhizophora species). Only 16 of the mangrove trees are left standing now, having all been cut down for fish traps, firewood, and timber. This has led to a loss of biodiversity around the wetland.
