Moss Stories: In the plainest of words, this is a photograph of the bark of a slender tree that our kitten loves to climb and perch atop. I usually observe the tree in all its detail while that saucy little one refuses to come down. When I shot this pic the moss had achieved a perfect ‘Golden Mean’ between not new but not too old, and not wet but not too dry. If you look closely the bark has gashes from where human sickles had hit. She bleeds golden amber through her raw pink, flesh-like wounds. The matte-green of the moss juxtaposed against the mellow, glossy pink flesh of the bark, adds a wonderful layer of character to the picture. It adds story and history to a mere snapshot. I adore this picture, because it’s object needed only itself to look as beautiful as it did. No lights, no filters. It is the most perfect outcome of my obsession with Moss.
