20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
White Sand Storm
We stopped in White Sands New Mexico on a very hot, windy day. This photo was taken in the evening, as the wind was whipping up into a storm, and the sun was setting. It created a beautiful soft glow through the blowing sand.
