20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Wide-angle macro photo of a red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas) shot in situ.
While in the Arenal region I would explore the forest every night searching for nocturnal wildlife, often finding frogs, snakes, and interesting arthropods. The iconic red-eyed tree frogs typically remained too high in the canopy to photograph, so spotting one was a rare treat.
