Wicomico River

The evening sky and clouds is reflected in the still headwaters of the Wicomico River Potomac on an Autumn Evening. The Wicomico River and its tributaries are part of the Chesapeake Bay Conservation Area which is fed by the Potomac River. Being part of the Conservation Area involves ensuring that harmful chemicals and waste product do not reach the river. An interesting example is that the Charles County Government is promoting clearner septic tank fields that feed this area by offering large rebates for frequent septic tank cleanings. Most schools and local governments in Southern Maryland promote awareness of keeping the watershed clean and safe and conduct frequent river and stream cleanup projects.
