16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
With my skin, with what surrounds me.

Sofia. 30 years old. 14 since her first days with Leuchemia. Cancer could be the "theme" of this photo. Or hope. But it is not. What this images shows is simple: the consequences of those past years in Sofia's skin. That picture is aim to be the first one of a serie project called "Being", that explores how some particular situation leave marks; how do we live with them; how we feel. In any particular case, some words come up for me. In this first photo it was "Beauty". What is beauty? The eternal question. Why we not consider beautiful some aesthetic things. Sofia is beautiful. But she says she doesn't recognize herself in that picture. "With my skin with what surrounds me", talks about life, fear, shame, Beauty, marks and surviving.
