Woman with fish traps

I live beside the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I have the privilege of witnessing life on the water as few people Western people. Taking photos is my way of capturing, recording, and sharing photos is my way of honoring a culture and the people. The woman in the photo often sets fish traps near our home. On this day she gave me two very large fish that she had caught--a very generous gift. Looking closely at the photo will reveal much about this woman. Beneath her jacket, she dawns a nice dress. She wears jewelry, and paints her toenails. Her strength is internal as well as physical.
