14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
Wonderland #10

Each photograph in this series is based on the wonderment of childhood. My daughter is a great inspiration. The scenes are a collaboration with her art direction as she helps me rekindle the magic of life that comes so naturally as a child. I start with my camera on a tripod and shoot multiple exposures and extended exposures in a time lapse fashion. Rather than capturing a single moment, I enjoy the serendipity of multiple exposures that compose a compress sense of time. This way of seeing explores an alternative visual reality that plays with the space time continuum in a two-dimensional photograph. The final images invoke a dream like quality as we see time changing. I’m inspired by images that capture movement, play, light, nature, and spirituality. With multiple layers, I hope for multiple meanings as I search for a visually poetic approach to expanding the fleeting moments of experience.
