A contributory stream to the Wicomico River of Southern Maryland, winds its way through Cedarville State Forest, a Maryland Green Travel Partner. The photograph was taken during one my many sojourns to the forest. Established in 1930, the 3,500 acre Forest operated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, has aggressive pursued sustainable travel practices. This resulted in a 2012-2013 reduction of 12% gasoline usage, 37% diesel usage and 7.9% grid electrical energy usage. Additionally, they have a trash free environment, an aggressive recycling program and numerous operational policies for utilizing leading environmental friendly products and practices. The department and forest staff also are leaders in promoting environmental "stewardship" through reforestation projects, river cleanups and school education programs.
