A majestic swordfish (Xiphias gladius) has just being catched and is lying on the deck of the “Stella Maris” fishing boat. It was fished from a feluca boat with the traditional and selective method of fishing characteristic of the Strait of Messina. Althought this way of fishing is highly sustainable and has not any more high commercial values in general the future of the Mediterranean swordfish is seriously at risk and there's need for urgent action to reverse the decline of the stock.
