16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Yee-Haw

I'm in Texas and although our cities are booming with creative arts, fine dining, and Austin's amazing slogan "keep Austin weird," non Texans seem to only think of Cowboys when they hear Dallas...either the football team or the kind that rides a horse. The horses are plentiful, but the cowboys are almost all gone now. This single mother of two barrel races and purchases auctioned (repo-ed) horses for resale to feed her babies at the young age of 24. The aim was to capture the spirit and determination of the horse to reflect her own, while capturing the legs always in motion to reflect her busy life.
